The Mityana Diocese is an Anglican diocese in Uganda, inaugurated on May 22, 1977, to commemorate the centenary of the Church of Uganda. Initially part of the West Buganda Diocese, it was established to serve the Ssingo and Buwekula counties, which encompass the districts of Mityana, Kiboga, Kyankwanzi, Kassanda, and Mubende. The diocese began with two archdeaconries and 20 parishes and has since grown to include 9 archdeaconries, 1 deanery, over 68 parishes, and 20 mission parishes, serving more than 515 congregations. As of the 2014 census, the diocese had approximately 648,800 Anglicans, with 62% being youth.

The current bishop, the Rt. Rev. Dr. James Bukomeko, has been leading the diocese since February 2, 2020. Under his leadership, the diocese has focused on spiritual growth and community development. The mission of the diocese is to spread the knowledge of Christ through words and actions, empowered by the Holy Spirit, with the vision: “Come, Let Us Re-build” (Nehemiah 2:17).

In addition to its spiritual mission, the diocese is actively involved in socio-economic development through its social services and development division. This division addresses challenges in education, health, and economic growth, aiming to improve the well-being of the community. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has commended the diocese for its efforts in fighting poverty and promoting economic prosperity.

The diocese also operates Caritas Kiyinda-Mityana , which focuses on social protection, agriculture, livelihood support, health, human rights, and capacity building. Serving a population of over 1.5 million people, Caritas Kiyinda-Mityana strives to assist marginalized groups such as orphans, people with disabilities, single mothers, child-headed families, the elderly, and widows.

Looking ahead, the diocese is preparing to commemorate its 60th anniversary in 2024. Plans include commercializing parish gardens to attract events like weddings and political gatherings, with proceeds supporting church activities.
